Coarse Coat Dalmatians
A Coarse Coat Dalmatian can either be a Rex Dalmatian or an Abyssinian Dalmatian. Another breed that is not recognized by the Australian National Cavy Council is the Ridgeback that can also be Dalmatian.
Rex Dalmatians have been bred and shown successfully. The Rex Dalmatians are judged on the breed standard for density and springiness of coat and not on colour or marking of a Dalmatian.
The Abyssinian Dalmatian is also judged on the breed standard for placement of rosettes and ridges and not for colour or markings.

Ridgeback Dalmatian ( unstandardized )
The Ridgeback has just that, a high raised line of hair that runs down the center of the back. They should not show any rosettes along either side of the ridge.
Rex Dalmatian
The Dalmatian rex is not judged on the markings. It is only judged on the coarseness and density of the coat.
